The Perfect North Georgia Mountain Weekend: A 3-Day Blue Ridge, Georgia Itinerary

You don't need an entire week to escape to the North Georgia mountains.
Give us Friday afternoon through Sunday and you can hike to a waterfall, explore downtown Blue Ridge, eat some great food, visit an orchard or winery, soak in a hot tub, sit around a fire and still have enough downtime to actually feel like you went on vacation.
The secret?
Don't try to do everything.
One of the biggest mistakes people make when visiting Blue Ridge is packing so much into their itinerary that they need another vacation when they get home.
So we've put together our version of the perfect North Georgia mountain weekend.
Let's go!
FRIDAY: ARRIVE, UNPACK & SLOW DOWN
3–5 PM: Check Into Your Cabin
You've made it to the mountains.
Now resist the temptation to immediately leave again.
Unpack.
Walk around the cabin.
Check out the view.
If you brought the dogs, let them sniff absolutely everything.
Pour yourself a drink.
Sit on the porch.
Take a breath.
You're officially on mountain time.
Your cabin shouldn't simply be where you sleep between activities.
It's part of the vacation.
6 PM: Dinner in Downtown Blue Ridge
Now it's time to head downtown.
Blue Ridge has developed a fantastic little food scene, and Friday night is a great opportunity to start exploring it.
If you want a nice mountain-town dinner, try Harvest on Main.
Looking for Southern comfort food? Southern Charm is right downtown.
Want cocktails and a slightly more upscale evening? Check out The Black Sheep.
There are also plenty of casual options if you've been traveling all day and just want something easy.
Our advice during busy weekends: plan ahead. Blue Ridge gets busy, particularly during fall and holiday weekends.
8 PM: Back to the Cabin
This is where the vacation really begins.
Hot tub.
Fire pit.
Fireplace.
Wine.
S'mores.
A movie.
A game.
Or absolutely nothing.
Turn off the schedule for the night.
Tomorrow we explore.
SATURDAY: THE BIG BLUE RIDGE DAY
8 AM: Breakfast
You've got two choices.
Make breakfast at the cabin and enjoy a slow morning on the porch...
OR...
Head into town and grab breakfast before your adventure begins.
Either way, don't rush.
You've got plenty of time.
9:30 AM: Take a Hike
Time to get into the mountains.
One of the great things about Blue Ridge is that you don't have to be an experienced backpacker to enjoy some beautiful trails.
Choose your adventure.
Easy-ish: Fall Branch Falls
Located in the Aska Adventure Area, Fall Branch Falls is a great choice if you want a relatively short waterfall adventure.
The hike is only about 30 minutes round trip, although roots, rocks and incline mean you should still wear appropriate shoes.
Moderate: Long Creek Falls
Want a little more?
Head toward Long Creek Falls.
The roughly two-mile round-trip hike follows portions of the Appalachian Trail and Benton MacKaye Trail and leads to one of the area's beautiful waterfalls.
Adventure: Keep Walking
If hiking is one of the main reasons you came to North Georgia, there are miles and miles of trail available throughout the area.
Explore more of the Benton MacKaye Trail, Appalachian Trail or the trail system around Aska.
Just remember:
You don't get extra vacation points for exhausting yourself.
Turn around when you've had enough.
Noon: Head Back to Downtown Blue Ridge
You've earned lunch.
Downtown Blue Ridge is compact enough that once you park, you can spend the next few hours exploring on foot.
Grab lunch somewhere that catches your attention and then start wandering.
1–4 PM: Explore Downtown Blue Ridge
This is one part of the weekend where we don't want to give you an itinerary.
That's the fun.
Walk around.
Explore the shops.
Check out the galleries.
Grab something sweet.
Have a drink.
Find a souvenir.
Sit somewhere and people-watch.
Walk some more.
Blue Ridge is best enjoyed without constantly checking the clock.
4 PM: Choose Your Own Adventure
Now you have a decision to make.
What kind of mountain weekend are you having?
Option 1: Visit a North Georgia Winery
There are numerous wineries around Blue Ridge and Ellijay, making this a great afternoon option for couples or a friends getaway.
Grab a glass, find somewhere outside and enjoy the mountains.
Option 2: Visit an Orchard
If you're here during apple season, this one's easy.
Head to Mercier Orchards in Blue Ridge for apples, cider, baked goods and seasonal activities.
And yes...
Get a fried pie.
Option 3: Find More Adventure
Depending on the season, spend the afternoon kayaking, tubing, fishing, mountain biking or exploring around Lake Blue Ridge and the Toccoa River.
Option 4: Go Back to the Cabin
This option is seriously underrated.
You already paid for a beautiful cabin in the mountains.
Go enjoy it!
6:30 PM: Dinner at the Cabin
You've been exploring all day.
Tonight, we're staying home.
Pick up steaks, burgers or something easy to grill.
Or grab takeout downtown before heading back.
Open the wine you picked up earlier.
Turn on some music.
Cook together.
Eat outside if the weather cooperates.
There's something about dinner on a mountain cabin porch that just tastes better.
We don't make the rules.
8 PM: Mountain Night
Now put the phone down.
Get in the hot tub.
Build a fire.
Make s'mores.
Look at the stars.
Watch football.
Play cards.
Talk.
Laugh.
Do nothing.
This is why you came here.
SUNDAY: ONE MORE ADVENTURE
8 AM: Slow Down
Sunday morning shouldn't feel like an evacuation.
Make breakfast.
Sit on the porch.
Take one more look at the mountains.
Have another cup of coffee.
Pack up.
Take your time.
And when checkout time arrives, there's still no reason to immediately head home.
We've got one more stop.
After Checkout: Visit Mercier Orchards
Mercier Orchards is one of our favorite ways to end a Blue Ridge weekend.
The family-owned orchard has been part of Blue Ridge since 1943.
Stop by the market and bakery, grab some fruit, cider and baked goods, and take a little bit of Blue Ridge home with you.
Depending on the season, Mercier also offers U-Pick events and other farm activities.
It's also conveniently located along Highway 5/515, making it an easy final stop for many visitors before heading home.
Noon: Head Home
And that's it.
You didn't see everything.
Good.
That means you have a reason to come back.
Make the Weekend Yours
The perfect Blue Ridge weekend looks different for everyone.
Coming for a romantic getaway?
Skip the longer hike, visit a winery, make a nice dinner reservation and spend more time in the hot tub.
Bringing the family?
Try an easier waterfall hike, explore downtown, visit an orchard and finish Saturday night around the fire pit.
Bringing the dogs?
Find a pet-friendly cabin, hit the trails and spend more time outside.
Want adventure?
Hike longer. Mountain bike. Kayak. Fish. Explore.
Want to do absolutely nothing?
Cabin.
Hot tub.
Fire.
Food.
Mountains.
Repeat.
We fully support this itinerary.
When Is the Best Time for a Blue Ridge Weekend?
Here's the great thing about North Georgia:
Every season gives you a different reason to visit.
Spring brings waterfalls, wildflowers, comfortable hiking weather and the mountains turning green again.
Summer means Lake Blue Ridge, the Toccoa River, kayaking, tubing and long evenings outside.
Fall brings changing leaves, apple season, festivals, cool mornings and some of the most beautiful scenery of the year.
Winter is cabin season — fireplaces, hot tubs, quieter mountain days and cozy weekends away.
There really isn't a bad time to come.
You just get a different version of the mountains.
The Cabin Is Part of the Vacation
Here's the biggest piece of advice we'd give anyone planning a weekend in Blue Ridge:
Choose a cabin you'll actually want to spend time in.
Don't treat your cabin like a hotel room.
Find the mountain view.
Get the hot tub.
Book the place with the fire pit.
Bring the dogs.
Find somewhere with a game room if you're bringing the kids.
Stay on the creek.
Wake up in the woods.
Because some of the best moments of your Blue Ridge vacation won't happen downtown or on a trail.
They'll happen at 8:30 Saturday night when you're sitting around the fire talking about everything you did that day.
Or Sunday morning when everyone else is still asleep and you're sitting on the deck looking at the mountains.
Those moments are part of the trip too.
